Okay so Sonic Prime was basically a weird game of seven minutes in heaven, right? Kissing may not have been involved but everything else sure was.

after months of agonizing over it, he's finally here: the sonic variant from my original shatterspace! syzygy, or "ziggy," has a bad attitude, and no powers at all. that's right! after creating a sonic variant that's basically a god in terms of his power level, i've decided this one doesn't have any superspeed.

instead, he uses extreme gear to get around.

as for why he doesn't have a wisp... well, he used to, but it met an unfortunate end when he was still very young. since then, he became prickly and closed off. at least, that's what most people think.

in truth, the twist to his character is that he's the embodiment of sonic's "power of friendship." he's rescued several kids from certain death situations, and has formed his own little gang of superpowered loyalists. among these kids are this universe's cream, ray, and kit. more about them will come later...

also, something to note about this shatterspace: since the world is fractured in two, i figured it would only make sense for space to be like how it is in "treasure planet". so, there's breathable air up there. syzygy and his little friends spend most of their time traversing the cosmos, searching for a way to fix the planet--a goal that most people on earth have all but forgotten about.

To cope with the ending of Dark Beginnings, I want focus a little on Shadow sticking up for Sonic whenever he can in Sonic Prime. A small detail I loved in Grim Tidings is that while they were both trying to escape the decaying Ghost Hill it was Shadow repeatedly boosting Sonic first before following after him. This could be because Shadow can fly so it'd be easier for him to clear the distances himself without help, but I like to also think of it as another subtle show of Shadow's care and consideration for Sonic and his safety, and how he prioritises it over his own first and foremost. Same thing with when they were fighting Nine's robots; despite being occupied with fighting as well, he still tries to keep an eye on Sonic just in case he needs immediate support and rushes over to defend him asap. Shadow's protective instincts kicking in for Sonic will never not be sweet to me.

EYE PUPILS BECOME SMALLER WHEN A PERSON IS SAD! SHADOW IS FUCKING SAD THAT SONIC SEEMED DEAD! LET'S GOOOOO, HE FUCKING CARES!!!

Trying to remember that I can enjoy things, even if other people didn't like it.

Reading YouTube comments on Sonic Prime stuff was a bad idea. Got me feeling stupid for liking my silly crazy boys :(( Was the show flawed? I mean, yeah. Almost fundamentally. But still, it made me laugh and smile and kick my feet! It made me feel like a kid again, and y'know what? That's enough for me.

It ABSOLUTELY had its share of cringe moments, but for everything that Prime was, second-hand embarrassment and all, I was BEAMING. I can understand (and agree) with a lot of the backlash without shitting on it entirely. I can nod along with fuming fans while cheering for my favorite goofballs. I can appreciate the beautiful animation, the composition, and the sheer AMBITION of such a massive and dramatic project. The humor, the expressions, the fluidity of some of those fight scenes..MAN.

I will always adore Prime, awful pacing or not, and that isn't because I'm blind to the mistakes throughout its run. It's because I love the blue blur enough to see past the hiccups. That's my funny little guy, after all. So fuck it.
